How to estimate tile for your project
Buying tile is really two numbers: the area to cover and a waste allowance for cuts, breakage, and future repairs. Enter your square footage, keep a 10 percent waste factor for a straight layout, and the calculator tells you how many boxes to buy.
Bump the waste to 15 percent for diagonal or herringbone layouts, or for rooms with lots of jogs and corners. Always buy from the same batch or dye lot so the color matches, and keep a few spare tiles for repairs.
