How to estimate mulch for your project
Mulch is sold by the bag (usually 2 cubic feet) and by the bulk cubic yard. Measure your bed, pick a depth, and this calculator converts the area and depth into cubic feet, cubic yards, and a bag count so you buy the right amount in one trip.
Two to three inches is the sweet spot for most beds: deep enough to hold moisture and block weeds, not so deep that it smothers roots. Bump it toward three inches for a fresh install, and top-dress at two inches for a yearly refresh.
