Topsoil is sold both bagged and in bulk yards. Enter the area you are filling and how deep, and this calculator gives you cubic yards, an approximate ton weight for bulk orders, and a bag count for smaller jobs.
For a new garden bed, 6 to 8 inches of quality topsoil gives roots room to establish. For leveling low spots in a lawn, a half inch to an inch at a time is plenty so you do not smother the existing grass.
